Being a well mature nature reserve the Specimen lake is home to a number of beautiful creatures and is sure to have you day dreaming as you wait for those carp to tear line from the spool. There are some hard fighting, beautifully aged common carp. Apple sliced mirrors, zip scaled mirrors and Leather mirror carp name a few. The rarely caught and elusive grass carp that calls Mere Moor its home is sure to be a trophy fish for any angler. On average the lake is between 5 and 8 feet in depth. This lake is a great runs water and almost guarantees you a bend in the rod. It is aimed at the pleasure anglers, younger anglers and serious match anglers alike. The largest known fish was caught weighing 15lb 6oz. Fish are often caught in margins, around lily pads and close to rushes although don't be afraid to build a swim in the open water to get them competing for food. Be sure to bait often to keep them in your swim as they are hungry, hard fighting fish!
